01-mary-frances-parkPROCLAMATION NO. 2006-01 WHEREAS Dr. Mary Frances Park was born on May 2, 1916 to Charles H. Allen and Elizabeth Allen from Huntsville; and WHEREAS Mary Frances is preceded in death by her beloved husband Mance Park and is leaving behind one son, Michael Mance, wife Carol, and grandsons Mance Allen and Paul Michael; and WHEREAS After earning her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate in Education, Mary Frances taught elementary school for eleven years, before embarking on a 25-year career as a Professor of Education at Sam Houston State University; and WHEREAS Mary Frances lived her life unselfishly giving to others. She has been a beacon in this community for many years and is known as one of our finest volunteers, with a love of family, friends, and any cause or project to help the community; and WHEREAS The City of Huntsville has been blessed to have Mary Frances as a volunteer on many boards and commission including the Library Board, and Friends of the Library, where she shared her time for the many programs for Children; and WHEREAS Mary Frances was inspirational as she also chaired the Management Team of the Wynne Home Arts Center, and led wise and generous spirit in the development of policies and procedures designed to open the facility to the many citizens of all ages for educational opportunities to learn, develop inventive minds, and have opportunities for artistic expression. She also voiced the idea to establish a support group of volunteers for the Wynne Home Arts Center and suggested that it be named “Friends of the Wynne”; WHEREAS Mary Frances will be missed by one and all at the City of Huntsville and she will live in our hearts and minds, while we all strive to also be remembered for commitment to family, church, profession and community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor and City Council Members of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: JANUARY 17, 2006 be declared: “MARY FRANCES PARK DAY“ in the City of Huntsville and urge all residents to join with them in remembrance of a vibrant lovely woman.
