WHEREAS , when crimes occur, society must protect not only the rights of the
accused, but also the rights of the victim; and
WHEREAS, recognizing that the holiday season is a difficult time for victims and
their families, The Tree of Angels has become a memorable tradition
observed in Huntsville to recognize that the holiday season is a
difficult time for victims and their families. The event honors
surviving victims of violent crime and victims’ families by allowing
loved ones to bring an angel ornament to place on a special Christmas
tree.
WHEREAS, all of Huntsville recognizes the important work of all who commit
themselves to assist crime victims and their loved ones. Traditions
like the Tree of Angels reflect the kind and compassionate spirit of the
holiday season and encourage us all to play a role in building a safer,
more just community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that:
December 13, 2005
be declared:
“Tree of Angels Day”
in Huntsville, Texas and hereby urge the citizens of Huntsville, Texas to participate in the Tree of Angels event.
