42-Tx Recycles DayProclamation 2005-42
WHEREAS, November 15 has been designated as Texas Recycles Day and the 2005 Theme is Growing Recycling in Texas; and
WHEREAS, Texans threw away over 29 million tons of waste in 2003, equaling about 7.2 pounds of trash per person each day, a lot of which could have been recycled or composted;
and
WHEREAS, Recycling could significantly decrease the more than $1 billion Texans spend annually to dispose of their trash; and
WHEREAS, Using recycled materials for the manufacturing of new products requires less energy than extracting and refining virgin materials, thereby reducing the combustion of
fossil fuels for energy and the resulting air emissions and conserving our natural resources; and
WHEREAS, in 2004 nearly 78,000 Texans participated in a Texas Recycles Day event; and
WHEREAS, Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality encourage state and community leaders to spread the word about programs that involve citizens in environmentally-consc
ious behaviors;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

Be declared: Texas Recycles Day
in the City of Huntsville, Texas, and call upon our citizens to join in activities that promote responsible environmental stewardship.
