34-Fire Prevention Week
PROCLAMATION NO. 2005-34
WHEREAS, the City of Huntsville is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our city; and
WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern both locally and nationally, and homes are the locations where people are at greatest risk from fire; and
WHEREAS, the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has documented through its research a significant increase in home candle fires, even as most other causes of home
fires have steadily declined; and
WHEREAS, Huntsville’s first responders are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and home fire injuries through prevention and protection education, by teaching over 7,000
people a year about fire safety; and
WHEREAS, Huntsville’s residents are responsive to public education measures and are able to take personal steps to increase their safety from fire; and
WHEREAS, using proper care with candles will have a positive effect on the number of home fires; and
WHEREAS, each candle fire that is prevented in Huntsville is an opportunity to prevent painful injury and costly property damage; and
WHEREAS, the 2005 Fire Prevention Week theme, “Use Candles with Care: When You Go Out, Blow Out!” effectively serves to remind us all of the simple actions that we can take to stay
safe from fires; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
October 9-15, 2005
be declared: Fire Prevention Week
in the City of Huntsville and urge all of the citizens of Huntsville to the important safety messages given during Fire Prevention Week 2005 and to help support the many public
safety activities and efforts of Huntsville’s fire and emergency services.
