28-first-missionary-baptist-136th PROCLAMATION NO. 2005-28 WHEREAS In 1869, Reverend J. J. Rhinehardt organized the First Missionary Baptist Church and was pastor from 1869 to 1876; and WHEREAS Nineteen pastors have served since Reverend Rhinehardt, each making significant contributions, both spiritually and physically; and WHEREAS Land was purchased across 10th Street from the original wooden structure, and a brick structure was erected; to this was later added an Education Facility to house the new ministries and needs of the community; and WHEREAS A new and refreshing attitude developed into a spiritual evolution between the Kingdom of God, the members of the Church, the Huntsville community and it’s youth and young adults; and WHEREAS Today exists a Youth Revival, Vacation Bible School, Youth Choir, Senior Mission, Music Workshop, Mid-Week Bible Study, Bus Ministry a Scholarship Program Tape and Track Ministry, and an Evangelistic Outreach Program; and WHEREAS After approximately 136 years, the wonderful guidance of the many pastors we have had, the example of the life of Jesus Christ to follow, the dedicated service of so many members and former members of the First Missionary Baptist Church officers and friends, a community of loving associates, and a God who is forever watchful and directing us, let us be thankful; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: August 28, 2005 be declared: FIRST MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH’s 136TH ANNIVERSARY AND 54TH HOMECOMING in Huntsville, Texas, and encourage the citizens of Huntsville to congratulate First Missionary Baptist Church on their service to our community.
