23-Bullock Family Reunion
PROCLAMATION NO. 2005-23
WHEREAS Clara Johnson was born on February 20, 1898 in Grimes County, Texas. Clara was the only child of Rubin and Ellen Booker-Johnson. Rubin was a farmer whose main crops were cotton
and corn and Ellen was a devoted housewife; and
WHEREAS Edward Bullock was born on February 19, 1898 in Grimes County, Texas. Edward was one of six children born to Obie Thomas and Maggie Bullock. Obie was a farmer whose main crops
were cotton and vegetables. Maggie Bullock had six children other than Edward. They were Willie Fulton, Mattie Floyd Bookman, Minnie Birdwell-Naylor, Sally Clara Davis, Ethel Mathis
and C.W. Bonds, all of which were raised in Grimes County; and
WHEREAS In 1917, Clara Johnson known to many as “Sug” married Edward Bullock in Walker County, Texas. To that union ten children were born: Edward Bullock, Jr., Gwendola, Inez, Hortense,
Sedelia, Estella and Ora Dell, Dorothy, Ellen D. and Norma Jean. All of which were raised in Walker County, Texas; and
WHEREAS All ten of their children helped in picking and chopping cotton, picking and shucking corn and picking peas in order for sales to local grocers to be expedited; and
WHEREAS All of the children were surrounded by love, respect, dedication and togetherness. They were a very close family. They all attended grade and high schools in Walker and Grimes
County as well as attended church in those counties; and
WHEREAS To date the children all still share stories funny and sad, with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
JULY 1-3, 2005
be declared:
“2nd Annual Bullock Family Reunion Weekend“
in the City of Huntsville and urge all residents to join with them in remembrance of a fine family.
