WHEREAS Weldon Wallace was born in Conroe, Texas, and after graduation from Conroe High School in 1994, he attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas where he decided
he wanted to have his own business;and
WHEREAS Weldon has paid his own way since he was twelve years old. He worked for his uncle at his flea markets and at his uncle's cash and carry carpet store in Cut and Shoot, Texas.
When Weldon was nineteen, his uncle had a heart attack and Weldon was left to operate the store for one year completely alone. It was in this year that Weldon obtained the working
knowledge of managing a store and learned that the key ingredient of operating any business is to provide high-quality customer service and a first-rate product; and
WHEREAS In June of 1999 when he was 23 years old, he opened The Carpet Store at 1212 14th Street in Huntsville, TX. In September of that same year, he made his first visit to the
Small Business Development Center (SBDC); and
WHEREAS Weldon is one of the Small Business Development Center's most active client and advocate. He supports the community by providing service and donations to many civic and business
organizations; and
WHEREAS In December 2004, the Small Business Development Center nominated Weldon, who was subsequently selected to receive the "Young Entrepreneur of the Year" award from the Small
Business Administration, Houston Region; and
WHEREAS On May 3, 2005, Weldon will be recognized at the Power Center in Houston, Texas by the United States Small Business Administration as the Houston Region's "Young Entrepreneur
of the Year". This honor is being awarded to a business owner, not older than thirty who has made significant progress in the business world;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
