01-edwin-sandhopProclamation 2005-01 WHEREAS Edwin G. Sandhop, Jr. was born in Trinity, Texas on December 6th, 1923; and WHEREAS Ed married Genevieve W. Durham of Trinity, Texas on November 11, 1942 and went on to earn his BBA from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas in 1949; and WHEREAS Ed was a member of the United States Army Air Force from February 1943 to February 1946 where he earned the Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, American and China Burma India Theater medals; WHEREAS Ed began his career with Gibbs Brothers & Company in Huntsville on May 1, 1947 and has faithfully served as Accountant, Trustee and Manager for the past 57 years; and WHEREAS Ed has served the City of Huntsville as a City Councilmember from 1961-1963, and 1973-1974, and was also a member of the Planning Commission from 1961-1970; and WHEREAS The Mayor and City Council acknowledge Ed’s service to this community as a member of the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Board since 1973, Chairman and member of the First National Bank Board of Directors from 1985-1993, Rita B. Huff Humane Society of Walker County board member from 1985-2003, Secretary and Board member for the Robert A. Josey Hospital Fund, and many others; and WHEREAS Ed’s leadership, personal professionalism, and integrity has been appreciated by not only Gibbs Brothers & Company, but also the City Council, staff and citizens of the City of Huntsville; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as City Councilmember, Ward 2 of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: January 15, 2005 Be declared: ED SANDHOP, JR.
