WHEREAS Gary Johnson was born in Rusk, Texas on December 28, 1954, married Pam and have two children, Tara and Kevin; and
WHEREAS Gary graduated from Mesquite High School in 1973, and received his Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Corrections from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas in
1983; and
WHEREAS Gary has served the State of Texas with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 28 years; beginning as a Correctional Officer at the Jester Unit in November 1973 and being
named Executive Director in August 2001; and
WHEREAS As Executive Director, Gary is responsible for the confinement and care of approximately 150,000 felony offenders, the supervision of over 500,000 more offenders on probation
and parole, and the management of approximately 40,000 employees; and
WHEREAS Throughout his tenure as Executive Director, Gary was dedicated to upholding and balancing his duties and responsibilities to the state leadership, the Agency and the taxpayers
of Texas; and
WHEREAS Gary’s leadership, personal professionalism and integrity will be missed by not only by the State of Texas, but also the City Council, staff and citizens of the City of Huntsville;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
