35-veterans-aware Proclamation 2004-35 WHEREAS 8.7 million American men and women served in the Armed Forces of the United States during the Vietnam War era; and WHEREAS 2.7 million of those soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen performed duties in the designated Vietnam War zone; and WHEREAS 58, 245 of them lost their lives fighting communist expansion and defending the South Vietnamese people, including 8 from Huntsville and 1 from New Waverly, Texas; and WHEREAS the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC honors all American veterans but is dedicated to those who served in the Vietnam War; and WHEREAS the Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall Experience is a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and is on display in Huntsville, Walker County, Texas during the period 4 through 7 November 2004; and WHEREAS we thank our veterans who served in the Vietnam War and remember those who died there and whose names appear on the Wall; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the power vested in me as Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: November 4-11, 2004 Be declared: VIETNAM VETERANS APPRECIATION WEEK in the City of Huntsville, Texas PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED on this the 4th day of November 2004.
