PROCLAMATION 2004-32
WHEREAS Daniel K. Smith was born on June 5, 1934 to Anuel and Agnes Smith. He had two brothers Anuel Jr. and Sammie; and
WHEREAS He attended school in Huntsville and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1954. He received a football scholarship and attended Prairie View A & M University; and
WHEREAS On September 8, 1958, Daniel married Ellis Marie Strayhorn. They have two children, daughter, Charolette Smith-Brown and son, Victor Ray Smith; and
WHEREAS Daniel joined First Baptist Missionary Church at an early age. Some years later he rededicated his life to Christ through music ministry under Kenny Rodgers; and
WHEREAS He was one of the first minority police officers with the Huntsville Police Department. He also was an entrepreneur, with two successful businesses, Smith Pest Control and D
& E Quick Stop. ;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Huntsville that:

be proclaimed
“Daniel K. Smith Day”
in the City of Huntsville.
