23-cleo-tyson-day PROCLAMATION NO. 2003-23 WHEREAS Cleo Tyson was born in Huntsville on May 1, 1986, the second daughter of Phil and Chris Tyson; and WHEREAS Cleo attended Huntsville Independent School District schools, where she cultivated her love of running beginning with winning the “turkey trot” as a student at Samuel W. Houston Elementary two years consecutively; and WHEREAS Cleo maintained honor roll status as a student at Mance Park Middle School while participating in cheerleading, volleyball, basketball and track. Cleo was selected as an All-American cheerleader, named recipient of the Callie Belcher Outstanding Athlete Award and set new records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes; and WHEREAS Cleo continues her quest for academic achievement at Huntsville High School where she is a member of Alpha Mu Theta, inducted into the National Honor Roll, named to the Who’s Who in American High School Students and is ranked in the top eleven per cent of her class; and WHEREAS Cleo continues her pursuit of athletic achievement, having competed locally, nationally and internationally in many track events including the 5th Parkroyal Down Under International Games (Australia), the 28th Annual Great Southwest Track & Field Classic (New Mexico); and having been invited to participate at the 2003 IAAF World Youth Track & Field Championships (Canada); NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: July 1, 2003 be declared: CLEO TYSON DAY in Huntsville, Texas, and I urge Cleo to continue her pursuit of academic excellence and to develop and enhance her athletic ability.
