09-day-play-ballPROCLAMATION NO. 2003-09 WHEREAS The City of Huntsville prides itself on being a family-friendly community and being committed to youth baseball and softball; and WHEREAS Youth baseball and softball brings big-league magic to many of our city’s children through team competition which builds not only sports skills but also self-esteem and leadership skills; and WHEREAS Today we accept the donation of a new electronic scoreboard through a partnership between Trey Wharton of Wharton Insurance Network and the insurance and investment company Safeco for Kate Barr Ross Park; and WHEREAS Safeco, partnering with its independent agents and advisors, through their Strengthening America’s Neighborhoods program, will donate over $1 million to install electronic scoreboards at youth baseball fields across the country; and WHEREAS Our new scoreboard will lend excitement to the game and provide years of pleasure to our residents and demonstrate to our youth that what is important to them is important to the community; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: APRIL 5, 2003 be declared: "A DAY TO PLAY BALL!" in Huntsville, Texas, and in doing so, urge all citizens to join in supporting our community gathering areas such as baseball fields by cheering on our youth PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this the 1st day of April 2003. ___________________________ _ WILLIAM B.
