PROCLAMATION 2003-02
WHEREAS Carol Shaw was hatched on April 15, 1952 (which makes her 45 days older than Jeff Harwell) in Palestine, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Owens and
WHEREAS Carol began service with Sam Houston State University in January 1978 at the ripe old age of 26 as the Department of Accounting Secretary; and
WHEREAS Carol is the only secretary anyone can “remember” in the department of accounting, having been around longer than any faculty member in the department, except Ennis Hawkins;
and
WHEREAS Carol has served on University Committees, ranging from Chair of the Staff Excellence Award Committee to the Legends and Lies Committee, in conjunction with the Bicentennial
of SHSU, and the Women’s Advisory Committee, and has performed most of Diane Green’s work; and
WHEREAS Carol has received many accolades for her dedicated service, including the Employee of the Month - March 1987, and the Staff Excellence Award – 1992, and was formerly the sponsor
of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority; and
WHEREAS Carol is THE planner of celebrations, birthdays, divorces, births, and other significant milestones – some requiring licenses and others requiring support devices and apparatus;
and
WHEREAS Carol is the undisputed, “champeen” Karaoke Queen of the College of Business Administration; and
WHEREAS Carol has maintained over a quarter century of youthful exuberance, attitude, view of life, and personality that has breathed life into the department of accounting;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

CAROL SHAW DAY
in Whoville, on the campus of Sam Houston State University, and in the great City of Huntsville.
