WHEREAS Lisa Dalzell, twenty-three year old daughter of Julian and Mary Sue Dalzell and sister to Andrew, was crowned the first Miss Walker County in 1999, and has been a representative
in the Miss Texas and Miss America pageants since 1999, currently holding the title of Miss Texas 2002; and
WHEREAS Lisa is a graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. Lisa has been accepted to South Texas College of
Law and will seek her law degree beginning the fall of 2003, on her way toward a career as an attorney specializing in copyright, computer and entertainment law; and
WHEREAS Lisa’s accomplishments include founding the “Hands On Texas” school program; Volunteer Resource Management; Help One Student to Succeed (H.O.S.T.S) Mentor; a member of Omega
Phi Alpha-Service Sorority; a member of Alpha Delta Pi Social Sorority; Special Olympics Volunteer; Action Reach-Out Mission Volunteer; and various other civic and religious volunteer
activities; and
WHEREAS Lisa will make approximately 400 appearances during her year as Miss Texas, traveling daily on a statewide speaking tour promoting the Texas Cares for Children Program to over
200 school assemblies, as well as promoting her platform, Shaping America’s Volunteer Efforts, sharing her own volunteer experiences and encouraging others, especially youth, to give
of their time in service to their communities; and
WHEREAS Miss Texas Lisa Dalzell, as the 2002 representative of the Miss Texas Organization, is proof positive that the efforts of countless hundreds of volunteers in communities around
the state are for a worthy cause; and
WHEREAS Miss Texas Lisa Dalzell embodies all that is good about the Miss Texas and Miss America organizations and programs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the power vested in me as Mayor
of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared:
"MISS TEXAS 2002 - LISA DALZELL DAY"
in Huntsville and Walker County.
