14-j-sanchez-dayPROCLAMATION 2002-14 WHEREAS Jose Sanchez, Jr., was born to Jose and Maria Sanchez, Sr. in a sleepy little village called Hualauises near Monterrey, Mexico, and with his family, moved to Huntsville, Texas when he was four, where eventually became a naturalized citizen; and WHEREAS Jose decided in the eighth grade, to his classmates’ derision, that he would someday run his own restaurant and, while in high school, Jose worked at a local restaurant beginning as a busboy and eventually becoming manager; and WHEREAS On March 5, 1997, Jose approached the Sam Houston State University Small Business Development Center where counselors provided assistance culminating in the opening in April 1997 of Jose’s Mexican Restaurant, a 1,000 square foot Mexican restaurant with only nine tables and, in August 1999 Jose’s relocated to a 4,200 square foot establishment to meet the needs of his customers; and WHEREAS Approximately one year ago, Jose started Dream Makers, a limousine service and plans to open a third business soon; and WHEREAS Jose is one of the Small Business Development Center’s most active clients and advocates and supports the community by providing service and donations to many civic and business organizations; and WHEREAS In November 2001, the Small Business Development Center nominated Jose, who was subsequently selected to receive the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Small Business Administration, Houston Region; and WHEREAS On April 4, 2002, it was announced that Mr. Jose Sanchez, Jr. had been selected as the Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the entire Region VI United States Small Business Administration,; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that: MAY 9, 2002 be declared: “JOSE SANCHEZ DAY” in Huntsville, Texas,.
