PROCLAMATION NO. 2002-03
WHEREAS James ‘Jim’ and Edna Dix were married in Baytown, Texas, on February 6, 1942, where they lived until moving to Huntsville in 1972; and
WHEREAS Edna worked for Humble Oil & Refining Company during the war until she married Jim, who was serving his country during World War II. Edna moved to New York to be near Jim when
his ship docked; and
WHEREAS in 1946, after the war, Jim and Edna returned to Baytown, where Jim worked for Humble Oil & Refining Company in Baytown and Edna became a full-time mother to three sons, Edward
F. Sloan, James Ernest Dix, and Walter Eugene Dix, and one daughter, Leaila Criste Dix Wells; and
WHEREAS after taking an early retirement to accept an offer to teach, Jim and Edna moved to Huntsville where Jim taught air conditioning and heating at Lee College until his retirement
in August 1986; and
WHEREAS Jim and Edna are the proud grandparents of two granddaughters, Darrian Criste Wilcox and Paige Elizabeth Sloan, and one grandson, Robert Holley Wells; and
WHEREAS Jim, now 88, remains an avid baseball fan and gardener, planting a vegetable garden and flowers every year; and
WHEREAS Edna, now 85, is an accomplished artist specializing in painting wooden objects d’art; and
WHEREAS Jim and Edna are very active in their faith, having been a member of the choir and a deacon and still regularly attending First Christian Church of Huntsville; and
WHEREAS Mr. and Mrs. Dix celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary on this 6th day of February, 2002;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that
