18-hbba-2000 PROCLAMATION NO. 2000-18 WHEREAS The sport of baseball expresses the heart and character of America, and for many years has been properly recognized as our Nation's pastime; and WHEREAS Dixie Youth Baseball is a program of service to the youth of our community, dedicated to teaching sportsmanship and the competitive will to win, as well as furthering physical fitness and well being through healthful association with other youngsters under proper leadership; and WHEREAS Players, managers, coaches, officials, parents, umpires, and countless others work together in an atmosphere of wholesome community activity to provide valuable training for the participants, and entertainment for the spectators; and WHEREAS It is fitting that we recognize the adults who give so freely of their time and energy, and whose only reward is the satisfaction of providing young people the opportunity to enjoy baseball and to learn the basic ideals of fair play and good sportsmanship; and it is also fitting that we commend the young athletes who are developing their potential in so many ways by participating in this program; and WHEREAS Huntsville will be the host for two District Tournaments and the State 14-year old Boys State Tournament beginning on July 1; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that: JULY 2000 is hereby designated as: DIXIE TOURNAMENT MONTH in our community, urging all citizens to recognize the importance of the Dixie Youth organization in the development of our youth.
