PROCLAMATION NO. 2009-19
WHEREAS J. T. Starkey has taught three generations of Huntsville ISD students, serving for 38 years at Mance Park Middle School, formerly Huntsville Junior
High School, from 1971 through May 2009;
WHEREAS During his time at Mance Park, Starkey was a Department Chairperson for 30 years, a member of a campus site-based team for 15 years,
and a member of a district site-based team for 8 years;
WHEREAS Starkey was recognized by Huntsville ISD as the Teacher of the Month in October 1984;
WHEREAS He improved the junior
high crafts program by adding an Industrial Arts curriculum that included drafting, photography and computer-based instruction;
WHEREAS He was the recipient of the 2001 Mirabeau B.
Lamar Award for Excellence presented by the Masons of Texas; and
WHEREAS Starkey was also instrumental in the creation of PARK PRIDE, an organization which recognizes exemplary student
behavior and grants privileges for such behavior;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

in the City of Huntsville and urge the parents, students and employees of Huntsville Independent School District to recognize J.T. Starkey for his unselfish
dedication and hard work.
