PROCLAMATION NO. 2009-20
WHEREAS Roxie Anna Roy Douglas was born on April 7, 1924 and was a proud resident of the City of Huntsville for many wonderful, fulfilling years; and
WHEREAS During
the course of her distinguished life, Roxie gave birth to five beautiful children and loved and nurtured numerous grandchildren; and
WHEREAS Roxie also touched the lives of many through
her service to the First Missionary Baptist Church, her involvement in civic and charitable organizations and the love and compassion she gave freely to others; and
WHEREAS Throughout
her life, Roxie was a faithful servant of the Lord, a wonderful mother, grandmother, a friend to those in need, and a model citizen; and
WHEREAS The strength, self-sacrifice, determination,
and love for others demonstrated by Roxie throughout her life shall forever stand as a shining example for others who wish to live a long, prosperous and happy life; and
WHEREAS Roxie
made a significant contribution to the City of Huntsville through her many community and civic volunteer hours before her death on April 7, 1997; and
WHEREAS Since 1997 the Roxie Douglas
Scholarship Foundation has awarded 41 scholarships to graduating seniors and 45 Humanitarian Awards. The Roxie Douglas Scholarship Foundation recently opened a G.E.D. and After-School
tutorial center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
a Councilmember of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared:
“ROXIE
DOUGLAS DAY“
in the City of Huntsville and urge all residents to join with them in remembrance of a fine citizen, Christian, mother and grandmother.
