PROCLAMATION NO. 2009-15
WHEREAS historic preservation is an effective tool for managing physical city growth while maintaining community character by revitalizing neighborhoods
and buildings and by fostering local pride with events that preserve local folk traditions while encouraging tourism; and
WHEREAS historic preservation is relevant for communities across
the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and
WHEREAS it is important to celebrate the role of history and traditions
in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people; and
WHEREAS “This Place
Matters” is the theme for National Preservation Month 2009, cosponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Texas Main Street Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY
PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared:
NATIONAL PRESERVATION MONTH
and call upon the people of Huntsville,
Texas to join me in honoring The Tall Pines Quilt Guild in their efforts to celebrate and preserve our history with the eighth annual “Airing of the Quilts” celebration and their fellow
citizens across the United States in recognizing and participating in this special observance.
