The Huntsville Police Department encourages all residents and business owners to review the City's alarm
ordinance and to purchase the required permits as soon as possible.
According to HPD Chief Kevin Lunsford, the department has experienced an encouraging level of compliance
since the ordinance was amended last year and hopes to see more in the coming months.
"As stated in our amended alarm ordinance, all residences and commercial establishments with alarm systems
are required to obtain a permit through HPD," Lunsford said. "Permits are issued at a rate of $10 each for
residential permits and $30 each for commercial permits, and a separate permit is required at each alarm site.
"The department hopes that this amended ordinance will reduce the number of false alarm responses by our

officers and allows them to better direct their efforts toward other law enforcement purposes. If individuals or
businesses have not purchased their permits, we would request they do so as soon as possible."
Residential and commercial customers may purchase permits online through the CitySupport Web site,
http://w\A,w.hunts\Alletx.citysupport.org. The HPD Web site, .huntsvillepolice.com, also has a link to the
CitySupport Web site.
Customers are welcome to come in person to the Huntsville Police Department, located at 1220 11th Street with
questions.
"The Huntsville Police Department has partnered with CitySupport to assist in the administration of the alarm
ordinance," Lunsford said. "Through their site, citizens can obtain a permit for their alarm, ask questions
regarding the alarm ordinance through a live chat feature, view the alarm ordinance, or pay for fees resulting from
police response to false alarms at their business or residence."
As always, citizens are encouraged to contact HPD with questions regarding the alarm ordinance or for
assistance in obtaining their permit. The department may be reached at (936) 291-5460.
