AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS,
DIRECTING ESTABLISHMENT OF BICYCLE ROUTES AND
PATHS THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE.
WHEREAS, Huntsville desires to be a more attractive and progressive city;
WHEREAS, bicycle routes are an effective alternative means of transportation; and
WHEREAS, bicycle usage reduces traffic, reduces exhaust emissions, and reduces
parking problems;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, THAT:
Section 1: The City Manager and staff are hereby directed to:
a. Establish bicycle routes in Huntsville where practicable to allow
the usage of bicycles throughout Huntsville;
b. Establish said routes within 60 days and post the routes on the
City's website.
Section 2: a. "Where practicable" means on streets that are currently wide
enough or other routes that would allow establishing bicycle routes
without construction;
b. The routes are to be established in accordance with State law and
City ordinances, and shall be clearly marked and clearly posted.
C. Routes should be coordinated with Sam Houston State University.
