ORD 2009-24 - Neighborhood Electric Vehicles - Establish Routes 02-17-2009t ORDINANCE NO. 2009-24
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS,
DIRECTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NEIGHBORHOOD ELECTRIC
VEHICLE ROUTES THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE.
WHEREAS, Huntsville desires to be a more attractive and progressive city; and
WHEREAS, electric vehicles are a positive and economical alternative transportation;
and
WHEREAS, electric vehicles are environmentally friendly, will increase the quality of life in
Huntsville: and
WHEREAS, neighborhood electric vehicles ( "NEV's ") are legally licensed for street usage in
Texas (Texas Transportation Code Chapter 551, Subchapter D).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, THAT THE CITY MANAGER AND STAFF ARE
HEREBY DIRECTED TO:
Section 1. Establish NEV routes in Huntsville to allow the usage of NEV's throughout
Huntsville in accordance with Texas Transportation Code § §551.301, 551.302,
51.303;
Section 2. Have proposed routes and map submitted for approval to Council within thirty
(30) days from this date;
Section 3. Establish the routes within thirty (30) days following approval; and
Section 4. Post an explanation of NEV's along with current status of the routes on the City's
website, and announce the completion via the media and City website.
