"Register today for the fourth annual Genealogy Weekend!" said Linda Dodson, City Librarian. "As in past events,
we have an exceptional speaker line-up, including local and national genealogy experts.
"These individuals can assist not only with the extensive software available in the library, but also with research
tactics and approaches our participants may not have previously considered."
Speakers for the event will include: Professor John Versluis: "Researching WWI Veteran Records & WWI Unit
Histories;" Johnny Willis: "A Success Story of WWI Research"— (BC Before Computers);" Kevin Claus:
"Searching the GLO" (General Land Office); Janet Miller and Janet Gardner: "Genealogical Treasure Maps: Using
Maps as a Tool to Trace your Ancestry;" Debbie Parker Wayne: "LATA GACC! DNA and Genetic Genealogy
Today" and a second session, "Going Nuclear: DNA Discoveries to Trace All Lines of Descent;" and Heather
Kramer: "Getting the Most for your Money from Ancestry.com."
Online registration and schedule information about this event are available at www.myhuntsvilielibrary.com.
Pre-registration is free and appreciated due to the provision of handouts and refreshments.
Special research time is scheduled from 4:45 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. on Friday, during which members of the
Walker County Genealogy Society (WCGS)will be available to assist with participant research and questions.
In addition, Marian Hunter, an expert FamilySearch.org instructor, as well as co-trainers Liz Bailey and Wynette
Boyce, will share their expertise in navigating the multiple layers of the FamilySearch website.
"Come take this opportunity to delve into the Library's collection of print and electronic resources, microfilm and
maps," Dodson said. "Whether you end up finding the connection you need to surpass that research wall you've
run into, or discover that the researcher sitting next to you is a relative, a new research world will be opened!"
The WCGS will provide a light supper in the Community room from 5:30 p.m. to 8 30 p.m. on Friday. Plans for
silent book auctions are also in the works for both Friday and Saturday.
