Registration and prize collection continues through July. This program is complimentary and open to children from birth to age 18. Participants will receive a book donated by the Kiwanis Club at registration (while supplies last), in addition to a complete schedule of activities and information regarding how to win prizes for reading. On Tuesday July 1St at 3:00 PM, kids will explore the science of both chemical reactions and earth science. Children will sculpt a dough volcano and fill it with vinegar and baking soda to replicate an eruption. Supplies will be provided and the program is free and open to the public. Verd'ika Corps, A Mandalorian adventure based off the Star Wars universe On July 7t" at 4:00 PM, the Huntsville Public Library welcomes the return of the Star Wars Costume Club: Mandalorian Meres who will host a new kind of space adventure for children aged 4-18 years, called Verd'ka Corps. Based on the Mandalorian culture and characters found in Star Wars, this club divides cadets in special age-appropriate groups known as Battalions. Each battalion is coordinated and issued monthly challenges by their intergalactic training sergeant. As the cadets learn and grow, they'll graduate into new battalions to take on harder challenges and earn greater rewards. Additionally, the children will create their own original Mandalorian characters, complete with costume. The groups will continue to meet once a month on the first Monday of every month at 4 PM throughout the year. This special program funded by the Helen Wheat Cultural Endowment introduces audiences to one of the most famous prehistoric animals - the dinosaur! Perfect for any age, this highly interactive presentation offers a peek into the thrilling daily life of the dinosaur: investigate what dinosaurs ate, how they hunted, and the adaptations they developed to survive in a harsh and competitive prehistoric world. Because of the interactive nature of this program, the audience will be limited to 30 students and therefore, the library will offer two special showings at 12:30 and 1:15 PM. Helen Wheat Cultural Endowment Special Program: Jungle Jim, Entomologist On Friday, July 25th at 1:00 PM the Huntsville Public Library is proud to present the Guinness World Record holder Jungle Jim, as a special summer guest. This special program funded by the Helen Wheat Cultural Endowment introduces audiences to all kinds of wild creepy crawlies. The exhibit consists of an assortment of live animals along with a large display of preserved specimens. These include bacteria, plants, sponges, mollusks, starfish, arthropods, fish, land plants, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. When the presentation is complete, the audience is lined up to view the exhibit. This special show is appropriate for all ages and their families.
