Verd'ika Corps, A Mandalorian adventure based off the Star Wars universe
Starting on June 2nd at 4:00 PM, the Huntsville Public Library welcomes the return of the Star Wars Costume
Club: Mandalorian Meres who will host a new kind of space adventure for children aged 4-18 years, called
Verd'ka Corps. Based on the Mandalorian culture and characters found in Star Wars, this club divides cadets in
special age-appropriate groups known as Battalions. Each battalion is coordinated and issued monthly
challenges by their intergalactic training sergeant. As the cadets learn and grow, they'll graduate into new
battalions to take on harder challenges and earn greater rewards. The groups will continue to meet once a month
on the first Monday of every month at 4 PM throughout the year. For more information call the library at (936)

Story Hour at the Library
The Huntsville Public Library hosts Story Hour every Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. at the library. This complimentary
program promotes emergent reading skills for young children. Story Hour includes stories, songs, dance and
finger plays and concludes with a craft activity. The theme for June 4th will be "Reading Manners" with

Texas Reading Club at the Library
The Huntsville Public Library will host the annual Texas Reading Club. The summer 2014 theme is "Fizz, Boom,
READ!" This program is complimentary and open to children from birth to age 18. The program runs June 9th-
July 31St with continuous open registration. Participants will receive a book donated by the Kiwanis Club at
registration (while supplies last), in addition to a complete schedule of activities and information regarding how to
win prizes for reading. Prize coupons have been generously donated by various local businesses. Grand prizes
for higher levels of reading include books sets, toys, gift cards, and electronics. The more you read the more you
win! The Texas Reading Club also includes exciting free programs for all ages. Get in the action at the library
with Monday Tween Scene, the Tuesday Kid's Science Series, Wednesday Story Hours, and Thursday Teen
Only! events. Special performances will also occur on some Fridays afternoons. For more information call the

Kids Science Series-Soaring with Bottle Rockets

10th at 3:00 PM, Mary Gedelian, local educator, will kick off the series with a build your own bottle rocket
workshop in the community room. Children will build rockets while learning about the scientific principles of
thrust, acceleration, and Newton's laws of motion. Supplies will be provided and the program is free and open to

Huntsville Public Library in partnership with Texas Children's Health Plan is offering a free monthly family night
movie. The movie for June will feature an extremely popular and newly released whirlwind winter musical on
Thursday, June 12th at 5:30 PM. As a special summer treat, the movie will feature a karaoke sing-a-long for
any children who wish to let it go! All movies are rated PG or G. Popcorn and drinks will be provided, as well as

06/16-Tween Scene- Big, Bigger, Boom!
Tweens get ready... as the Huntsville Public Library will launch special summer programs specially designed for
kids aged 9-13 years old. On various Mondays at 3:00 PM in the library community room, Tweens are invited to
build, mix, and sometimes explode with science experiments geared for this specific age group. On Monday
June 16th at 3:00 PM, tweens will learn about gas-tastic chemical reactions with exploding water bombs, fizzy
eruptions, and elephant's toothpaste. All supplies will be provided. Due to the nature of the experiments, the
program is reserved for young scientists aged 9-13 years old. For more information call the library at (936) 291-

stories and songs featuring a science twist. This program is sponsored by the Texas

In conjunction with the Teen Summer Reading Program, the Huntsville Public Library will offer a special series of
workshops just for teens, featuring GoAnimate.com web application for creating and publishing original animated
video shorts. The first tutorial and imagination session will occur on Thursday June 26th at 4:00 PM in the
community room. No registration is required for the Imagination session; however teens will need to create a
GoAnimate account. Registered teens will be provided with student accounts with free unlimited access all
summer long. Bringing your own computer is recommended but not required. Laptops will be provided for
