Proclamation No. 2023-37
WHEREAS crime is a problem in our society that tears apart lives and breeds feelings of fear, anger, and helplessness, and is the obligation of all citizens to do everything possible
to ensure that our communities are not victimized by criminals; and
WHEREAS since its beginning in 1976, Crime Stoppers programs have empowered Texans to take a stand against crime by bringing together businesses, citizens, law enforcement, and the media
to combat crime and make our communities safer; and
WHEREAS combining media awareness, monetary rewards, and the ability to keep tipsters anonymous, Crime Stoppers has created an effective method for solving crime and helping citizens
take back control over their neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS Crime Stoppers has been particularly effective in Texas, in just the last year alone anonymous tips have led to over 4,000 arrests and 5.4 million dollars of narcotics seized;
and
WHEREAS since inception, the Walker County/Huntsville Crime Stoppers had 929 tips called in or placed on the website, and paid rewards of $86,105, resulting in $656,166 worth
of property returned to the owners.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Russell Humphrey, Mayor of Huntsville Texas, do hereby proclaim,
