Proclamation No. 2023-14 National Police Week (2)
Proclamation No. 2023-14
WHEREAS in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officer Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls annually as Police Week,
now known as National Police Week; and
WHEREAS we celebrate the remarkable courage of our law enforcement community and honor the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their communities. Not only this
week, but year-round, we should express our gratitude for the women and men that have chosen to protect our community; and
WHEREAS our officers save lives by keeping our roads safe, responding to violent incidents and natural disasters, they ensure public safety, build trust within our neighborhoods, and
protect the well-being of our community. Unfortunately, too often, they are called upon to respond to much more; and
WHEREAS we honor and thank the Huntsville Police Department for all you do to protect our community, you are very much appreciated; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Andy Brauninger, Mayor of Huntsville Texas,
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM May 14th – May 20th, 2023, as
NATIONAL POLICE WEEK
