As well, the Huntsville Police Department has issued a general driving safety advisory in effect for this evening. Based on information from the National Weather Service, Emergency Management Coordinator John Waldo said Huntsville residents may expect freezing temperatures beginning at 9 p.m., as well as potential precipitation in the form of snow and/or freezing rain. "At this point, we have a 30 to 40 percent chance of one inch of snow, a 20 to 30 percent chance of two inches of snow, and up to a 20 percent chance of four inches of snow," Waldo said. "There is also a chance of ice buildup from the Houston area to the Galveston coastline. We will continue to provide updates as they are made available." Walker County Emergency Management Coordinator Butch Davis said the Emergency Operations Center will be fully activated beginning at 5 p.m. Residents with questions or concerns may reach the EOC at (936)435-3035. According to HPD Assistant Chief Darryle Slaven, residents are asked to limit any roadway use to essential trips only, and if a long distance must be travelled, to exercise extreme caution and budget additional time. "With the Winter Storm Warning in effect for our area, it would be best to have as few drivers on the road as possible," he said. "If you do have to drive, make sure to slow down, watch the roads, and be mindful of the vehicles around you." The City of Huntsville, Texas Veterans Affairs Advisory Board meeting, posted for 5:30 p.m., has been cancelled. The board's next meeting is scheduled for February 20. As well, a Curbside Recycling Guidelines meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Walker Education Center has been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.
