PRESS RELEASE
The City of Huntsville, in an effort to better provide for the safety of its citizens, amended its
alarm ordinance earlier this year.
The amended alarm ordinance provides for the charging of $30 per year for alarm permits
issued to businesses, and $10 per year for alarm permits issued to residential customers. It also
requires those with alarms at their business or residence to have a permit.
Additionally, the alarm ordinance allows for charges for police response to false alarms
occurring after three false alarm responses.
“The department hopes that this amended ordinance will reduce the number of false alarm
responses by our officers and allows officers to better direct their efforts toward other law
enforcement purposes,” HPD Chief Kevin Lunsford said. “If individuals or businesses have not
purchased their permits, we would request they do so as soon as possible.”
The Huntsville Police Department has partnered with CitySupport to assist in the administration
of the alarm ordinance. Through the CitySupport Web site,
http://www.huntsvilletx.citysupport.org, citizens can obtain a permit for their alarm, ask
1
questions regarding the alarm ordinance through a live chat feature, view the alarm ordinance,
or pay for fees resulting from police response to false alarms at their business or residence.
As always, if citizens have questions regarding the alarm ordinance or need assistance in
obtaining their permit they may call or stop by the Huntsville Police Department and we will be
glad to help.
