PRESS RELEASE
An officer of the Huntsville Police Department was injured early Monday morning when his unit
responded to a traffic accident on Interstate 45.
As of late Monday morning, Officer Chris Janis is in good condition and being treated at Huntsville
Memorial Hospital.
“On Monday, November 25 at approximately 4:50 a.m., Huntsville Police Department Officers Chris
Janis and Wade Roberts were dispatched to a traffic accident on Interstate 45 at the southbound 115 mile
marker,” HPD Lt. Jim Barnes said. “When the officers arrived on the scene of the accident, Officer Janis
proceeded to exit his patrol car and head toward the disabled vehicle, which had struck the guard rail in
the center median.
“Another vehicle traveling southbound appears to have lost control on the wet roadway and struck the
patrol car from behind. The patrol car lurched forward striking Officer Janis.
“Huntsville/Walker County EMS quickly responded to the scene and transported Officer Janis to
Huntsville Memorial Hospital.”
The Texas Department of Public Safety responded and is investigating the accident.
