According to Joyce Hubbard, Water Services Superintendent, the disinfectant adjustment – which primarily entailed water main flushing with concentrated chlorine – resulted in very favorable residuals and cleaner water for area residents. “The disinfection process we completed in October, referred to as a chlorine burn, was hugely successful,” Hubbard said. “The results are in line with what we hoped for, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has commended us on the effort. “We expect citizens will notice improved water quality as a result of this process.” Hubbard said the City plans to continue the treatment on an annual basis. “Since this maintenance cycle went as well as it did, we’ll probably plan on repeating the process each year during the fall months,” she said. “Our purpose is to provide the public with the best water quality possible, and TCEQ recommends this practice as one way to reach that goal.” For more information, contact Hubbard at (936) 294-5762.
