The Wynne Home Arts Center will offer a unique exhibit by Charles Jones, including the art of woodcut, artist books and
prints, beginning Thursday, October 3.
According to Linda Pease, Cultural Services Coordinator, an opening reception will be held on opening day from 4 p.m. to
7 p.m., with artist remarks at 5:30 p.m.
For the duration of the exhibit, which will conclude in January 2014, Jones’ pieces will be on display in the Brown-Wynne
Gallery of the Wynne Home.
The methods I developed for working with wood were inspired by these examples [like] Gene Eastman, Gaddis Geeslin
and Stanley Lea, and a natural affinity for black and white,” Jones said. “I am most happy when the image appears to
have grown naturally from the texture and grain of the wood.
“The work I have chosen for this exhibition is a series of effigy portraits of poets, playwrights, musicians and visual artists
who were a major influence on my development. I have attempted to capture the sense of that person’s work, that
“content,” we associate with their name, while also being true to their likeness.”
In addition, art works by Stanley Lea will be exhibited and for sale in Friends of the Wynne Sales Gallery.
