EMERGENCY ITEM The following item is added to the June 19, 1987 posted agenda as an emergency item due to the need to repair equipment vital to the health and safety of the citizens of Huntsville in connection with the preparation of a . new trench space at the City Landfill. Consider repairs to the 977 Track Loader and award the bid to the lowest bidder meeting specifications in the amount of $8,111.46 from Hood and Wedemeyer of Houston (replacement of undercarriage and hauling). Gene Pipes, City Manager, advised the Council that three weeks ago, the final drive of the 977 failed. He said after further investigation, the staff determined that the undercarriage needed to be replaced. He said bids were taken on this repair work and opened on June 19, 1987. The firm of Hood and Wedemeyer of Houston was low bid, Mr. Pipes said, at $7,711.46 for the repair and $400 for hauling for a total of $8,111.46. He said three other bids were received. The Council was then advised it is the staff's recommendation to award the bid to Hood and Wedemeyer in the amount of $8,111.46. Mr. Pipes said the staff estimates that if we continue to have dry weather, we will be able to resume work on the new trench space by the first of next week. The staff is requesting that the above mentioned bid be approved as soon as possible, he said, so that the needed repairs can be completed by next week and work could then resume on the new trench.
