RESOLUTION TO ADOPT LETTER TO THE TEXAS TRANSPORTATION
COMMISSION OF THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
( "TXDOT") TO REQUEST THAT TXDOT IMPROVE THE PORTION OF
STATE HIGHWAY 19 IN WALKER COUNTY WHICH BEGINS AT THE
INTERSTATE 45 TURN -OFF AND ENDS AT ITS INTERSECTION WITH
STATE HIGHWAY 30

COUNTY OF WALKER §
WHEREAS; The City of Huntsville and the City Council cares for and wishes to improve the
health, safety and welfare of its citizens and persons traveling in and through the City and Walker County;
and
WHEREAS; The portion of State Highway 19 in Walker County which begins at the Interstate
45 turn-off and ends at its intersection with State Highway 30, where Highway 19 becomes a four -lane
highway (hereinafter the "Portion of Highway 19 ") has had approximately 131 accidents since the year
2007; and
WHEREAS; Over the last ten years accidents on the referenced Portion of Highway 19 have
taken an average of one life each year; and
WHEREAS; The referenced Portion of Highway 19 is an important transit route for the Sam
Houston State University located in Huntsville and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice located in
Huntsville; and
WHEREAS; The City believes the reference Portion of Highway 19 would facilitate evacuation
and disaster relief planning; and
WHEREAS; The City Council of the City of Huntsville adopts and approves the attached Letter
dated September 1, 2009 to the Texas Transportation Commission and authorizes the sending of the
original of the Letter and this Resolution to the Texas Transportation Commission and copies of the
Letter and this Resolution to other appropriate legislators, government officials and governmental entities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS AS FOLLOWS:
1. The above findings of fact and statements are hereby adopted.
2. The City Staff is directed to take all necessary action to have the attached Letter and this
Resolution sent to the Texas Department of Transportation and copies of the Letter and this
Resolution to other appropriate legislators, government officials and governmental entities
AND IT IS SO ORDERED.
