A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE
SUBMISSION OF THE 2012 EDWARD BYRNE JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) TO THE HOUSTON —
GALVESTON AREA COUNCIL (HGAC) AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION OF THE GOVENOR'S
OFFICE FOR TECHNOLOGY IMPROVEMENTS; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACT AS
THE CITY'S EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE IN ALL MATTERS
PERTAINING TO THE CITY'S PARTICIPATION IN THE 2012 JAG.
WHEREAS the City desires to ensure the safety of all it citizens and; The City of Huntsville requires the
Police be charged with this task; and
WHEREAS it is necessary and in the best interest of the City to apply for funding under the 2012 Justice
Assistance Grant (JAG).
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that:
SECTION 1: A Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) application is hereby authorized to be filed on behalf of the
City and be placed in competition for funding to the Department of Justice.
SECTION 2: The application will be for $155,000 to improve and upgrade the technology for the
Huntsville Police Department.
SECTION 3: The Mayor and City Council strongly support this application to address the safety needs of
the Community.
SECTION 5: The City Council directs and designates the City Manager, Bill Baine, as the City's Chief
Executive Officer and Authorized Representative to act in all matters in connection with this
application and the City's participation in the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant.

Background:
;The City of Huntsville has been upgrading its technology for several years and is in need of
additional upgrades for the police department
Facts to Consider:
• As more improvements are installed in the city's police increasing our storage capacity is
vital.
• This would allow for the storage of more videos from patrol cars for a longer period of time
• The interview room will receive new video equipment for better viewing and longer storage
• Will allow parking enforcement to manage parking tickets using a handheld devise versus a
manual, paper process.
