A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE
SUBMISSION OF A TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF STATE HEALTH SERVICES OBESITY PREVENTION GRANT
FOR A FITNESS PARK AT EASTHAM- THOMASON PARK; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ACT AS THE CITY'S EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE IN ALL MATTERS
PERTAINING TO THE CITY'S PARTICIPATION IN THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE HEALTH SERVICES
OBESITY PREVENTION PROGRAM.
WHEREAS The City desires to develop a healthy community for all citizens, and Eastham- Thomason
Park would assist in providing a walking path and fitness park for the citizens of Huntsville;
and;
WHEREAS It is necessary and in the best interest of the City to apply for funding under the Department
of State Health Services Obesity Prevention Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that:
SECTION 1: A grant application is hereby authorized to be filed on behalf of the City and be placed in
competition for funding under the Department of State Health Services Obesity Prevention
Program.
SECTION 2: The application will be for $150,000 of grant funds to carry out the Eastham- Thomason
Fitness Park Project.
SECTION 3: The Mayor and City Council strongly support this application to address the community
health and wellbeing for the citizens of Huntsville and wish to combat the health problems
associated with obesity.
SECTION 5: The City Council directs and designates the City Manager, Bill Baine, as the City's Chief
Executive Officer and Authorized Representative to act in all matters in connection with this
application and the City's participation in the Department of State Health Services Obesity
Prevention Program.
