AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 17, SECTION 17 -8 OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, BY ADDING A PARA-
GRAPH SPECIFICALLY MAKING IT UNLAWFUL FOR ANY WATER METER TO
BE TURNED ON BY PERSONS OTHER THAN CITY EMPLOYEES WHEN SUCH WATER
HAS BEEN TURNED OFF DUE TO DELINQUENT PAYMENT OF ACCOUNT, AUTHORIZING
THE LOCKING OF WATER METERS ON DELINQUENT ACCOUNTS AND PROVIDING A
PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF SUCH SECTION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HUNTS -
VILLE, TEXAS, THAT CHAPTER -17, SECTION 17 -8, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES
OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, I5 HEREBY AMENDED AS FOLLOWS:
Section 17 -8: Control of and Interference with Meters,
Valves, etc.
(b) It is specifically provided that all water
meters turned off for non - payment of account
shall not thereafter be turned on by any
person other than an employee of the City of
Huntsville and it shall be unlawful for any
person not a City employee to turn on a dis-
connected water meter. The Manager of Utilities
may cause a lock to be installed on any water
meter turned off for failure to pay an account,
and it shall likewise be unlawful for any
person other than an employee of the City of
Huntsville to tamper with, cut, or otherwise
remove such lock from a water meter.
(c) Any person violating the provisions of this
ordinance shall, upon conviction, be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor and punished as pro-
vided in Section 1 -8 of the Code of Ordinances
of the City of Huntsville, Texas.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE SAID CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS, THAT THE PRESENT PARAGRAPH OF SECTION
17 -8, CHAPTER 17, OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF HUNTS -
VILLE, TEXAS, BE DESIGNATED AS SUB - PARAGRAPH (a) OF SUCH SECTION.
