PROCLAMATION
NO. 2010-59
WHEREAS H.B. Toney, born January 12, 1916, was a dedicated firefighter who ably served the
City of Huntsville for many years ; and
WHEREAS Chief Toney served the City as Fire Chief from November 1957 to November 1959,
and again from April to November 1960; and also as Fire Marshall from
September 1964 until his death on March 23, 1977; and
WHEREAS Chief Toney was voted Outstanding Firefighter in both 1957 and 1960; and
WHEREAS Chief Toney is the only Huntsville firefighter to have lost his life in the line of duty,
which occurred as a result of a fire in Riverside on February 23, 1977; and
WHEREAS the H.B. Toney Memorial Fire Station #4 has been built on Chief Toney’s former
homesite, a just and fitting location for both it and the marble monument originally
erected in his honor at Fire Station #2 in 1997.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor
of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
July 23, 2010
be declared:
“H.B. Toney Day”
in the City of Huntsville and urge all citizens to honor the sacrifice and memory of this
exemplary local hero.
