PROCLAMATION No.
2010-49
WHEREAS a “cancer survivor” is defined as anyone living with a history of cancer –
from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life, and there
are more than 11 million cancer survivors in America; and
WHEREAS since over 1.4 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United
States this year, increased access to quality cancer care, screening, and
prevention – especially among minorities and the medically
underserved – must be a top priority in our community; and
WHEREAS in our community, University Cancer Center provides necessary and
vital care and treatment, and the professionals at the University Cancer
Center encourage everyone in our community to educate themselves on
the signs and prevention of cancer; and
WHEREAS it is right and just for the City Council and the residents of Huntsville to
join the professionals at the University Cancer Center and communities
across this nation in saluting all cancer survivors and those who support
them.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas, that:

be observed as:
“NATIONAL CANCER SURVIVORS DAY”
in Huntsville, Texas, and encourage citizens to join in this joyous celebration of life.
