PROCLAMATION
NO. 2010-42
WHEREAS travel to and within the United States provides significant benefits for the
nation, and contributes to personal growth, education, cultural
understanding and enhancement of America’s image around the world; and
WHEREAS the travel industry ranks as the 5th largest employer in the United States
and among the top 10 industries in 48 states and the District of Columbia
when measured by employment; and
WHEREAS in September 2009, the Huntsville Cultural District was designated by the
Texas Commission on the Arts as one of the first seven state cultural
districts; and
WHEREAS the Huntsville Cultural District is centered around the downtown, and
features museums, art galleries, artist studios and workshops, historic
homes, theaters and theatrical performances, and cultural events and
festivals.; and
WHEREAS the Cultural District is also home to some of the finest historical architecture
in Texas along with murals created by world-renowned artist Richard Haas
and unique homes built from recycled materials created by Dan Phillips of
Phoenix Commotion to complement the historic aspects of the district; and
WHEREAS cultural tourism plays a vital role in enhancing Huntsville as a tourist
destination.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in
me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared: TEXAS TOURISM WEEK
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to join in the celebration of the unique
cultural and tourism-related highlights of our community.
