Proc. 2010-39 Autism Awareness Month 4-10
PROCLAMATION
NO. 2010-39
WHEREAS autism spectrum disorder is a range of complex neurodevelopment disorders,
characterized by social impairments, communication difficulties, and restricted,
repetitive, and stereotyped patterns of behavior; and
WHEREAS one percent of the population of children in the U.S. who are between the ages of
three and seventeen have an autism spectrum disorder; and
WHEREAS autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability, with a 10 to 17 percent
annual growth rate; and
WHEREAS the United States recognizes April as a special opportunity for everyone to
educate the public about autism and issues within the autism community; and
WHEREAS while there is no cure for autism, it is well-documented that if individuals with
autism receive treatment early in their lives, it often is possible for those
individuals to lead significantly improved lives.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me
as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
APRIL 2010
be declared: AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
in the City of Huntsville and invite all citizens of Huntsville to become better
educated on the subject of autistic spectrum disorders.
