Proc. 2010-37 Sexual Abuse Awareness Month 4-10
PROCLAMATION NO. 2010-37
WHEREAS non-stranger and stranger rape and sexual assault affect women, children
and men of all racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, and sexual violence
against citizens continues at an alarming rate; and
WHEREAS women, children and men suffer multiple types of sexual violence that can be
devastating for not only the survivor, but also for the family and friends of the
survivor; and
WHEREAS to prevent future violation of our citizens, it is critical to foster greater public
awareness of the causes and effects of sexual violence, and to address this
problem on every level; and
WHEREAS important partnerships have been formed among criminal and juvenile justice
agencies, health providers, allied professionals and victim services to generate
greater public understanding of the issues surrounding sexual assault.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor
of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
April 2010
be declared: “Sexual Assault & Prevention Awareness Month”
in the City of Huntsville, and I encourage all citizens to commit to increasing public awareness
of sexual violence and its prevalence, and to eliminating it through prevention and education.
