Proc. 2010-19 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouting in America Day 02-08-10
PROCLAMATION
NO. 2010-19
WHEREAS Lord Robert Baden-Powell conceived a scouting program for boys in 1906, held the first
scout encampment at Brownsea Island Scout camp in 1907 and founded Boy Scouts in
1908; and
WHEREAS in 1909, Chicago publisher W. D. Boyce encountered Scouting in London, and incorporated
the Boy Scouts of America on February 8, 1910; and
WHEREAS in the last 100 years, 2 million Boy Scouts in the United States have earned the rank of
Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS for 100 years, boys in Huntsville have participated in Scouting, providing 100 years of
service to the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:

be declared: “100 Anniversary of Boy Scouting in America Day”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to recognize the contributions Boy
Scouts have made in our community.
