Proc. 2010-18 Josey Lodge Appreciation Day 02-06-10
PROCLAMATION
NO. 2010-18
WHEREAS in 1933 Mr. Robert A. Josey donated the funds for a lodge for Boy Scouts in Huntsville; and
WHEREAS Gibbs Brothers & company donated 400 logs, and the rocks, and the Roosevelt
administration’s Civil Works Administration (CWA) provided the labor to construct the
lodge; and
WHEREAS the Josey Boy Scout Lodge was dedicated on June 17, 1934, and has been the meeting place
of Huntsville Boy Scouts for 75 years; and
WHEREAS for each of those 75 years, the Josey Award has been given at the annual Josey Banquet;
and
WHEREAS the Josey Board, Inc. has run the Josey Lodge since its beginning, and has submitted the
Josey Lodge for consideration as a Texas Historical Landmark.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
February 6, 2010
be declared: “Josey Lodge Appreciation Day”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to recognize the benefit to the
community of Mr. Josey’s generous gift to scouting and to Huntsville.
