PROCLAMATION
NO. 2013-15
WHEREAS today we remember the birthday of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who devoted
his life to the struggle for justice and equality, driving all Americans toward a dream
of mutual respect and brotherhood; and
WHEREAS King’s leadership and eloquence succeeded in uniting people of all backgrounds in a
noble and meaningful quest for freedom and basic civil rights regardless of ethnicity;
and
WHEREAS very recently, the City of Huntsville experienced the loss of a shining example of that
quest in the form of Percy Howard, Jr., a man who served our city and the members of
our community through education, civil service, and Christian faith; and
WHEREAS it is our duty as a community and as Americans to remember those individuals who
fought for the liberties of all of our citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
January 21, 2013
be declared: “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day”
in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to remember and honor this devoted man,
who gave so much for so long, to make our country a better place.
