Proc. 2013-13 Crime Stoppers Month 01-13 PROCLAMATION NO. 2013-13 WHEREAS crime is a scourge on our society that tears apart lives and breeds feelings of fear, anger, and helplessness, and it is the obligation of all to do everything possible to ensure that our communities are not victimized by criminals; and WHEREAS since its beginning in 1976, Crime Stoppers programs have empowered Texans to take a stand against crime by bringing together businesses, citizens, law enforcement, and the media to combat crime and make our communities safer; and WHEREAS combining media awareness, monetary rewards, and anonymity for tipsters, Crime Stoppers has created an effective method for solving crime and helping citizens take back control over their neighborhoods; and WHEREAS Crime Stoppers has been particularly effective in Texas, where anonymous tips have led to 175,000 arrests and $1.2 billion in property recovered and narcotics seized since the inception of the program; and WHEREAS in 2012, the Walker County/Huntsville Crime Stoppers had 424 tips called in or placed on the website, and paid rewards of $3,700. They are also proud to work with the Huntsville High School Crime Stopper Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that: January 2013 be declared: “Crime Stoppers Month” in the City of Huntsville, and call upon our citizens to recognize that they are able and responsible for stopping crime. th PROCLAIMED AND SIGNED this the 8 day of January 2013. _______________________ Mac Woodward, Mayor
