PROCLAMATION NO.
2011-28
WHEREAS Sexual Assault Awareness Month is intended to draw attention to the fact that
sexual violence is widespread and has public health implications for every
community; and
WHEREAS rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment impact our community as seen by
statistics indicating that one in five women will have experienced sexual assault by
the time they complete college; and
WHEREAS with leadership, dedication, and encouragement, there is compelling evidence that
we can be successful in reducing sexual violence through prevention education,
increased awareness, and holding perpetrators who commit acts of violence
responsible for their actions; and
WHEREAS important partnerships have been formed among criminal and juvenile justice
agencies, health providers, allied professionals and victim services to generate
greater public understanding of the issues surrounding sexual assault.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power vested in me as Mayor of
the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
April 2012
be declared: “Sexual Assault Awareness Month”
in the City of Huntsville, and I encourage all citizens to commit to increasing public awareness of
sexual violence and its prevalence, and to eliminating it through prevention and education.
