PROCLAMATION
NO. 2011-45
WHEREAS in 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which
th
designated May 15 as Peace Officer Memorial Day and the
week in which that date falls annually as Police Week, now
known as National Police Week; and
WHEREAS there are approximately 900,000 law enforcement officer
serving in communities across the U.S., including the dedicated
members of the Huntsville Police Department and other law
enforcement agencies located wholly or in part in Walker
County; and
WHEREAS some 60,000 assaults against law enforcement officers are
reported each year, and since 1791, over 19,000 officers have
made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS today we honor the service of all officers and publicly salute
them here and across our great nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the power
vested in me as Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Texas that:
May 13-19, 2012
be declared: NATIONAL POLICE WEEK
in the City of Huntsville and call upon our citizens to join in the acknowledgement
and appreciation of all those who serve and protect.
